Inspecting life jackets for commercial shipping
Jacobs LifeSaving’s service is recognized by important national and international maritime authorities, such as the Dutch Shipping Inspectorate and ClassNK. In addition, we are certified in accordance with ISO 9001:2015. This demonstrates our competence in conducting professional lifejacket inspections.
Life jackets for commercial shipping must be inspected once a year. When the life jackets arrive at Jacobs LifeSaving, they are the first to be subjected to a visual inspection. For example, we check whether all parts are still in good condition and whether they function properly. When everything is up to standard, the life jacket is approved and ready to be returned to the customer.
If the life jacket is rejected, worn parts will be replaced or repaired. When damage is too serious or the life jacket is older than 15 years, the life jacket must be replaced.
It is then checked whether the pressure in the life jacket is still up to standard. If this is not the case, the life jackets where this is necessary will return the pressure to the correct level. This way all your life jackets have their optimal buoyancy again and are ready to save lives.
When the inspection is completed and all life jackets have been approved, we return them to the ship.

Frequently asked questions
How often do I have to have my life jackets inspected?
A life jacket for commercial shipping must be inspected every year at a recognized service station.
How far in advance do I have to schedule an inspection?
We are a small and flexible company. Because of this, we are able to shift quickly. We prefer to receive an inspection request as early as possible, but of course everything depends on the planning of the ship. Scheduling an inspection can be done ranging from months in advance up to (and including) 24 hours before the ship departs, provided logistics allow this. Sufficient time is needed to get the life rafts off-board, inspect them and return them safely.
At which locations do you inspect?
In principle, our services are not location-bound, but in practice our service area extends from Northern Denmark to Southern France. Additionally, customization is possible in some cases, although the travel time required for this can be of hindrance.
Which brands do you inspect?
We inspect all sorts of brands of life jackets.
